About the country
Azerbaijan blends the ancient, mystical, and exotic with welcoming natives who will go out of their way to assist a traveler. The government just made visiting Azerbaijan simpler by issuing an eVisa.
Azerbaijan is also called the Land of Fire. The Absheron Peninsula is home to more than a third of the world's mud volcanoes. Baku is the capital of Azerbaijan, a small country at the crossroads of East and West. It's a cultural hub, with a past that includes an indigenous fire religion, ancient ruins, and Islamic customs.
Yanar Dag, or 'burning mountain,' is an iconic Azerbaijani sight that is rather thrilling to come up close to. There is evidence that the entire hill was once entirely aflame, dating back to the 5th century, but the natural gases have steadily dwindled over time. Only a few square meters remain, and it is expected to be entirely depleted by 2020.
Baku is as walker-friendly as it gets, and you can easily move around on two feet the whole day.
Sri Lankans must apply for an Azerbaijan eVisa. There is one thing you should be aware of: if your stay exceeds 10 days, you must register with the State Migration Service. This process can be assisted by the hotel where you will be staying.
